Responsibilities
- Assist with testing, repairing, and installing gas equipment
- Cut, thread, and join pipes using hand tools
- Position heavy equipment, connect regulators to test stands, and turn screw adjustments until gauges indicate that the inlet and outlet pressures meet specifications
- Report hazardous field situations, disconnect and/or remove defective or unauthorized meters using hand tools
- Lubricate wearing surfaces of mechanical parts, using oils or other lubricants
- Turn valves to allow measured amounts of air or gas to pass through meters at specified flow rates
- Attach air hoses to meter inlets; then plug outlets and observe gauges for pressure losses in order to test internal seams for leaks
- Disassemble and repair mechanical control devices and valves, such as regulators, thermostats, or hydrants, using power tools, hand tools, and cutting torches
- Turn valves to allow measured amounts of air or gas to pass through meters at specified flow rates
- Shut off service and notify repair crews when major repairs are required, such as the replacement of underground pipes or wiring
Basic Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of experience working with industrial gases
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Ability to read and understand parts, books, and service manuals related to the industrial gas field
- Strong plumbing and general contractor trade skills
- An applied mechanical or technical background, with the ability to think and work their way through difficult projects or problems
- Experience working with health and safety issues in high pressured systems
Additional Requirements
- Ability to climb ladders and work in tight spaces
- Ability to use hands for simple grasping, pushing, pulling, and fine manipulation
- Comfortable with frequently bending, squatting, and climbing
ITAR Requirements
